Squinted Beaches

Squinted Beaches is a collection of photographic abstract artworks derived from scenic footage captured along a remote beach in the Netherlands. Through layering, colour manipulation and abstraction, familiar landscapes are transformed into compositions that sit between memory and perception.

Deep, overlapping colour fields create a subtle squinted, shutter-like optical effect, softening the landscape while preserving its atmosphere. The resulting works evoke the sensation of looking towards the horizon through bright sunlight, where detail dissolves and colour, light and mood take precedence.
