Collection: Diorama

Diorama is a series of three photographic artworks by Bastiaan van Ederen, exploring the emotional distance between a quiet interior and a world that continues moving beyond the glass. Constructed physically in the studio and photographed through fluted glass, the works transform light, movement and architectural fragments into distant, dreamlike spaces.

Across the series, the view moves from implied architecture to concentrated urban light and finally to the tactile presence of rain. The vertical rhythm of the glass connects all three works, stretching points of light into columns and allowing familiar places to remain visible without becoming fully legible.

Distance, light and stillness

The three works do not depict one identifiable place.
They suggest stations, city lights, hotel views and rainy interiors without resolving into a specific location. Each image remains open enough to meet the viewer’s own memory: a city once passed through, an evening observed from a window, or a place that somehow feels familiar before it has been visited.

A world beyond the wall

When placed in an interior, Diorama can behave almost like another opening in the architecture. The works create depth without pretending that the wall disappears. Instead, they introduce the suggestion of a world beyond it, a place for the eye to travel without leaving the room.

Made through light and glass

The scenes behind Diorama were constructed physically in the studio using real objects, moving light and fluted glass. The glass is not a digital effect: it shapes the light, fragments the view and becomes part of the photographic image. In Diorama III, the water on the glass is real.
