Whelm

WHELM is a large-scale photographic collection by Bastiaan: three colourways of the same work, each released as a limited edition of 6. At 280 × 140 cm, its scale makes the surrounding architecture part of how the work is read.

The piece draws the viewer into a pattern that is at once repetitive and endlessly shifting. Organic in nature, yet precise in presence.

Perception at scale

From a distance WHELM reads as calm structure: rhythm, field, temperature. Up close the same surface becomes immersive. Micro-variation keeps the eye moving without turning the wall into visual noise.

Atmosphere in a room

At 280 × 140 cm the work is made for architectural presence. Space is part of how it is read. Distance, light and quiet change what the pattern does. It becomes atmosphere in a room rather than only an object on a wall.
